Motherhood. It’s absolutely amazing and tremendously demanding. Being a mom is stressful! To say it isn’t is simply untrue, which is exactly why CBD and parenting make the perfect pair. As a mom, making CBD a part of your everyday wellness routine could seriously help support the inevitable stress you experience. 

How exactly does it work? 

One way experts believe CBD supports stress because of the way it influences serotonin receptors. CBD binds directly to 5HT1A serotonin receptors, which shows to play a huge role in anxiety. This explains why so many people swear by CBD for stress support. 

Another way CBD is said to work for stress is through its indirect influence on the endocannabinoid system (ECS). While CBD doesn’t bind directly to CB1 or CB2 receptors, it does inhibit FAAH production, an enzyme that breaks down endocannabinoids in the body. Ultimately, this results in increased anandamide levels. Also known as the “bliss molecule,” anandamide is an endocannabinoid known for its influence on feelings of wellbeing and happiness.

While there isn’t exactly any clinical evidence to prove that CBD will increase your patience as a mom, there are countless women that swear CBD makes them a more patient parent. Did you know there’s research that’s discovered moms are sleep deprived for the first six years of their child’s life? True story. A 2019 study found that the sleep duration and satisfaction don’t go back to pre-pregnancy sleep patterns until the child goes to first grade. If you have more than one child, you might feel like you’re never going to sleep again. 

There’s more than one mom that swears by CBD as a sleeping savior. While more research is needed to say for sure, there is a growing body of evidence to suggest it could support sleep. In a 2019 case series, researchers wanted to determine how CBD might help improve sleep and/or anxiety. They found anxiety decreased in almost 80% of patients, while sleep improved in over 65% of patients. 

One of the reasons CBD is said to support sleep is because of its influence on the ECS. There’s evidence that shows the ECS influences the body’s natural sleep/wake cycle. There are two naturally occurring endocannabinoids produced in the body: anandamide and 2-AG. During the day, 2-AG levels are high. At night, 2-AG levels drop and levels of anandamide increase. CBD’s influence on these endocannabinoids are suggested to be partly responsible for its potential for supporting a solid night’s sleep

For us, CBD takes things down a notch at the end of the day. Almost like releasing a huge exhalation after holding your breath.
